New York Day 6, Nintendo World!

By day 6 we had basically seen everything we wanted to see in the big apple, and only had a few things to do like another shoot and to meet up with Graham Macindoe again. So we decided that a bit of geeking out was in order and visited Forbidden Planet and Nintendo World!! I also decided to use this as an opportunity  for a bit more of a research trip especially in Nintendo world, mostly because they where showing off the Zelda Sword and shield and show casing their new games and letting us play the oldies but goodies of the Nintendo gaming world.

Nintendo has been a big player in the gaming world for many many years, and some of the first gameboys where Nintendo’s, so visiting the store was relevant to my project and not only because I was desperate to pretend to be Link from Zelda for half and hour! Its interesting how even though I wasnt dressed as the character and was just holding his sword and shield, I felt like I was part of the Zelda world and instantly started to pose with the sword and pretend to kill monsters in my path. But this is what holding something that is part of a beloved game does to you, its the same thing each and every one of us does the moment we get the chance to hold on to something that your favourite character did.

Forbidden Plannet is like nerdvana, its amazing in there. With everything you can think of from dolls and figurines to comics and clothes and fan art, part of the experience of enjoying these virtual and made up universes is the idea of being able to buy artefacts that hold a physical representation of the alternative world and life that you buy into. Forbidden Planet basically sells every comic or graphic novel you can think of, and its also a provided space for someone to go and read these and lose your self, amongst people who also enjoy the same things.  It also sells jewellery and to my over joyed state, they had a Sailor Moon necklace!! Buying Sailor Moon memorabilia is rather hard to come by as its a very old show and was stopped after its 5th season in the 90’s, yet it is still one of the most loved anime’s of all time, so let me say ive never bought something so quick in my life.
